An Opportunity is the public-facing sign-up page for Volunteers and internal-facing Dashboards for Admins and Organizers to manage. They can have pre-established Serving Dates and Times or they can be Anytime, allowing volunteers to log their own hours. Opportunities are the foundational tool that everything is built on in VOMO.
Create a New Opportunity
- From the Admin Dashboard, using the left-hand menu, select "Opportunities."
- Select "Active" from the available options.
- Select "New Opportunity," available in the top right corner of the page.
A blank Opportunity will form open. Enter all the necessary details for your specific Opportunity.
- Opportunity Name - Enter a clear name for the Opportunity being created.
- Custom Opportunity URL - Enter a custom URL to be used for this specific Opportunity in place of the automatically formatting URL.
- Opportunity Description - Include any necessary details like a short summary of the Opportunity in the Opportunity Description.
- Join Causes - Select up to three (3) Causes to make your Opportunity more prominent in search results when Volunteers are looking for causes that match their interests.
- Add Tags - Select up to twenty (20) Tags to make your Opportunity more prominent in search results when Volunteers are looking for Tags that match their interests.

Join Initiatives - Join your Opportunity to a Initiative hosted by your organization or add it to a Public Initiative hosted by another organization in the VOMO network.
- Location Address - Specify the Location where this Opportunity will take place or select Virtual/Anywhere if there is no specific location.
- Virtual/Anywhere Opportunity. No location required. - When checked, the Opportunity will be treated as a Virtual/Anywhere Opportunity and the Location field will no longer be required.
- Display only City and Zip to potential volunteers. - When checked, the full Address details will not display on the public page. Approved volunteers will receive the exact Address in their Confirmation Email.
- Select the appropriate image file to feature on your Opportunity.
- Select the blue "Show Advanced Options" link, available below the Images section to open details like Privacy and Approval Settings, and more.
- Use the Advanced Options if you need them for Privacy/Approval Settings or to add Point People, Attachments, and Links to your Opportunity. Learn more Advanced Options here.
Needs Tab
- Select the Needs tab.
- If you Opportunity has serving dates and times, begin adding them.
- If not, consider making it an Anytime Opportunity with an end date instead.
- Learn more about Anytime Opportunities.
- If your Opportunity has specific dates and times, learn more about multiple time slots and recurring dates.
- With every Opportunity you have the option of creating an Anytime Opportunity or add specific Dates and Roles. Donation Items can be added to specific dates and Anytime Opportunities.
- Add the necessary needs; including dates, custom roles, donation items, and capacity for each Serving Date.
After ALL of the necessary information is filled, select "Publish Opportunity" to immediately publish your Opportunity live for volunteers to join.
If you'd like to save it as a draft to complete at a later date, select "Save as Draft." On the Draft Opportunities page of your left Menu Bar will be a list of draft Opportunities waiting to be published.
