Keeping your Volunteer information up-to-date in Virtuous Volunteer and in your CRM ensures you have more accurate reporting and helps build better relationships with supporters. This guide covers how to set up the integration between Volunteers for Salesforce (V4S) and Virtuous Volunteer.
Before beginning, ensure you have:
- Admin access to both Salesforce and Virtuous Volunteer
- Appropriate permissions to install packages in Salesforce
Note: This process uses the Volunteers for Salesforce tool and does not involve using the Custom Mapping feature in Virtuous Volunteer. To learn more about Custom Mapping to Salesforce, click here.
Step 1: Verify or Install Volunteers for Salesforce
Not sure if Volunteers for Salesforce is already installed? Use these steps to check if you have V4S:
- In your Salesforce instance, click Setup in the top right corner
- Search "Installed Packages" using the Quick Find box
- Click Installed Packages
- If Volunteers for Salesforce is installed, it will appear in the list
If you need to install Volunteers for Salesforce or upgrade from an earlier version:
- Navigate to the Volunteers for Salesforce Installer
- Click Install Volunteers for Salesforce - View Details
- Log in to Salesforce if prompted
- Follow the installation instructions provided. Be sure to choose Install for All Users.

Step 2: Configure Volunteers for Salesforce Settings
Once installed, configure the following settings in Volunteers for Salesforce:
- Assigned Apps: Ensure Volunteers is set as Visible

Object Settings: For each V4S object (Volunteer Jobs, Volunteer Shifts, Volunteer Hours, Job Recurrence Schedules, Volunteer Recurrence Schedules, Contacts, Leads, and Campaigns), configure the following:
- Tab Settings: Set to Visible
- Record Types & Page Layouts: Assign appropriate V4S record types and page layouts
- Object Permissions: Set to Read, Create, Edit, Delete
- Field Permissions: Set all V4S fields to Read and Edit
- Apex Class Access: Add all classes that start with the prefix GW_Volunteers to the Enabled Apex Classes
- Visualforce Page Access: Add all pages that start with the prefix GW_Volunteers to the Enabled Visualforce Pages

Step 3: Configure Integration in Virtuous Volunteer
Initial Setup
- In Virtuous Volunteer, navigate to the Integrations tab. Select the Salesforce icon.
- Select the Connect Your Salesforce Account button. The setup wizard will guide you through the initial configuration with Salesforce. This includes determining:
- Launch Type: Who is included in the sync
- Launch Data: When the sync will begin

Data Sync: Confirm to allow VOMO to update their information in the integration
- Select to Save and Finish
Enable Data Sync
- Once the initial sync is saved, navigate to the Sync Data tab
- Ensure the toggle for enabling V4S integration is turned ON. Note: If you prefer custom mapping, select the toggle to enable custom syncing instead. Learn more about custom mapping to Salesforce.
- Click Save Data Sync Settings
Import Users
- Navigate to the Import Users tab
- Select the users you want to import to Salesforce
- Select the green Import Selected Users button to complete the import process
Once configured:
- The integration is fully synced and will update every 15 minutes.
- Virtuous Volunteer opportunities will appear in Salesforce as Volunteer Campaigns.
