VOMO Groups allow you to organize people into teams to best track their participation as well as easily assigning them to Opportunities! Let's discuss how Groups can be organized into three levels of groups and subgroups and how to create them.

Group Levels
A group of people can be organized into 3 levels of Groups with Subgroups. So...
You can have a Group at level 1 (also called a Parent Group) that represents the highest level of organization. For example, a level 1 Group could be "Schools" as a broad category that houses all of your school related groups. Within that "Schools" Group could be Subgroups at level 2 that represent individual campuses like "Northside Elementary" or "Eastside Middle School". Finally, at level 3, would be Subgroups within each of those level 2 schools. So Subgroups within Subgroups within a larger Group like this...
Before creating Groups and Subgroups, map out what levels you want each group to exist at. Start by creating your main level 1 Groups first, then move on to level 2 and level 3 Subgroups within those.
Create a Group
- Locate your Groups tool under People in the Admin Dashboard
- Select the Groups navigational dropdown under People
- Press the + Create Group button in the top right corner
- Provide the following information:
- Group Name
- Join the Group to Causes
- Add a Description
- Leave the Parent Group section blank since you are creating a level 1 Parent Group right now.
- Press the Save button in the top right corner
When you click Save, your new level 1 (Parent Group) Group Dashboard should appear and look similar to this...
Notice that there is a new action button in the top right corner called Create Subgroup. Click that button and then move on to the next section below to learn how to create level 2 and level 3 Subgroups.
Create a Subgroup
Having first created a Group (a level 1 Group or Parent Group), it's now time to create level 2 and level 3 Subgroups within that Group. Start by clicking the Create Subgroup button on your first Group dashboard you created moments earlier. Then fill in the following information:
- Subgroup Name
- Join Causes
- Description
Then, click the Save button in the top right corner!
After you save your new level 2 Subgroup, the dashboard for that new Subgroup will load and look like this...
Notice that because this new level 2 Subgroup is within a level 1 Parent Group, it says that it is a "Subgroup of _____" at the top of the page. Also, because it is at level 2, you will see another Create Subgroup button to the right to add level 3 Subgroups underneath this new level 2 Subgroup.
